Meet our cute new foster, Tom! Tom is a Welsh Corgi mix. My guess is Rat terrier, but who knows! He has a beautiful and soft tricolor coat, big perky ears, and a fluffy tail. What's not to love? Tom loves to smile and prance around the house. He likes to stick close by you, and is sure to be by your side, smiling up at you :)
Tom as now been with for one week. He was very shy in the beginning, especially with sudden or unknown movements. He still loved us very much, and if we sat down, he was right there crawling in our lap and getting reassuring pets. But if we moved too quickly or did something he wasn't expecting, he would put his ears back and jump away from the situation. Then quickly recover, and go and check it out. Now, one week later and he is settling in nicely and quickly losing any fears that he had. He's a great little cuddler and loves curling up in a warm cozy spot. Any cushy surface in the house has been layed on by Tom at one point. He really loves to cuddle up :)
We were told that Tom was potty trained when he came to us. Right away, we noticed something was wrong, as he was drinking a lot, barely peeing, only peeing in his kennel, and having strong odor to his urine. We quickly got him some antibiotics for a UTI and within 2 days, Tom was already feeling better and acting more like himself. Now we don't have potty accidents in the house (okay, okay, an occasional poop) and Tom goes potty outside! Though he is partial to one specific spot in the yard, in the leaf pile on the curb. Oh dogs...
Overall, Tom is a great little guy who is going to make someone VERY happy. If you are looking for a loyal companion, someone who really wants to spend the day with you, Tom is your guy! He may need a little longer of a "transition" time, as he is a more shy submissive dog, but he will return your patience with endless love! Apply for Tom today!

Otis found his Forever home!
Otis got to go home today with a lovely family! He has a human brother and sister and a Puggle sister too! Otis was especially fond of his new brother, and constantly wanted to be next to him or on his lap. He'll be a great family dog and a wonderful addition to his new family. Congrats puggle boy!

Otis the Puggle!
This Saturday, JR's brought in 48 new dogs from the south. FOURTY EIGHT! It was a loooong day.
I couldn't leave this cute little Puggle behind, so he came home with us. And we still have Rex too. Woof, so many dogs!
So, here's what I can tell you about Otis! Otis is about one years old, and appears to be 50/50 Pug and Beagle (aka Puggle). Otis spent quite some time in the shelter down south because he is heartworm positive and this scares some people. But not JR's. We have treated over 300 heartworm positive dogs, with no issues :) This treatment includes injections at the vet and an overnight stay. Dogs don't always feel great afterwards and may not eat or drink much. They also need to be kept quiet and calm during their treatment, so as not to stress their hearts as the worms are being killed by the medicine. Otis should be starting his treatment soon and will be ready to be healthy and adoptable in no time!
Otis has the Beagle bark and the Pug snorts and grunts. Quite endearing. He likes to be next to you or on your lap. He likes to sleep in funny positions and snore. He likes to follow the other dogs around, but hasn't gotten too playful yet. It could be because Rex and Dexter already have a bond and Otis feels he cannot intervene. Or it could be because he's not feeling the greatest. Who knows. He gets along just fine with the other dogs and the cat in the house. He's mostly about his humans though. He is always right by your side, and comes when called. No matter what you call him! With all the dogs in the house, it's hard to keep track of who is who so he's often called "puggle!" haha. He doesn't care, as long as he gets pets and lovin'.
Otis met a young kiddo today on his walk. He was very good with the child and pawed at him gently to try and initiate play, tail wagging.
Otis' bad habits include, not liking his nails trimmed and an amazing ability to leap into the air, grab the slice of pizza out of your hand, and swallow it in one fell swoop. I was so stunned, I couldn't even reprimand him! And we'll work on the nail trimming, he really needs it!
So what do you think? Can Otis snuggled into your heart and make himself at home? Fill out an application today!

Getting To Know Rex
Well, Rex has indeed stolen our hearts over here. We love his cuddly demeanor and the funny positions he chooses to cuddle in. He's also shown us that he knows a cute little trick. We call it "sit pretty" but we're not really sure if there is a "word" command to make him do it. All we know is, if we have food, a toy, or something Rex wants....this is his go to :). See pictures below!
We have learned that Rex does like to bark. He seems to bark within reason, i.e. someone in our driveway, the house door opening, or new noises. I think some of this will die down a bit as he gets used to his surroundings the "new" noises become "old". We have also been working on the behavior by calling his name when he barks, having him come to us and wait quietly, and then rewarding with a treat. But if you really hate barking, Rex may not be your guy.
That being said, we still think he's the coolest. :) He loves running up and down the stairs chasing a tennis ball and he has learned to play with our hyper terrier quite well. Their new favorite is playing tug-o-war with the rope together. They do so well! And though Rex is small, he wins most of the time!
Overall, Rex is one cool guy in a little package and we love having him here. But we also want him to find his forever home where we know he will curl up with his owner every day and make them wonderfully happy. Let this cute guy into your life, you won't regret it :)

Rex!
Meet our newest foster, Rex! He is a 1.5 year old Pekingese mix that is just as cute as can be. Look at those BIG puppy dog eyes! Don't let the "sad" look fool you, Rex is happy as can be!
Rex appears to be potty trained, no accidents here! He's even scratched at the door to tell us he wants to go out! Awesome! He also curls up in his kennel quietly at night. He gives a few little whines and then settles in for the night. We've heard him bark a few times, and it's a soft, quiet woof. He gives a few happy woofs when you get home, and then he's done. Rex walks well on a leash and actually loves to be outside, even in this nasty Wisconsin weather! Today, he climbed up on a large snowbank and just stood there, wind in his face, his ears blown back....and SO happy. What a goof :)
Rex will make a great companion for someone that is looking for an affectionate dog. He loves to be by his humans. He generally follows behind us as we walk through the house and when we settle down somewhere, he's right there, cuddled up to your feet or somewhere nearby. He also loves to burrow under blankets, roll around on the floor, prance around the house, chase balls, and generally be adorable. Overall, he's a really great guy!
Check out some pictures that we've gotten of Rex since he's been with us. The one's at the end are from his bath today. He was such a good boy the whole time! And afterwords, he was literally prancing around smiling. He knew he looked good :)

Welcome Custer!
He has an endearing underbite, wrinkly smooshy skin, and grunts and snores...sounds like a bulldog to me :) He has a very happy go lucky nature and is generally quite calm. Give him a bone, and he will lay there for hours in happiness! He is good with other dogs, cats, and kids. He is happy to go into his crate and is learning potty training quite quickly. He paces at the door to tell us he needs to go! He love love loves belly rubs and wants to be close to his humans, head in their lap, every chance he can get. He does bark a bit when he sees new dogs across the street or when he hears our crazy dog barking, but otherwise is quite quiet. Unless you count the snoring. And that's just adorable haha.
You may notice that Custer is a little pink. He is fighting mange right now, but he is looking SO much better than we he first came to JR's! He gets a special bath every 2 weeks, and also eats special sensitive skin food to help him grow back his luscious coat :). The first two pictures on this blog are actually of Custer two weeks ago. You can already see the difference! Custer has demodex mange, which is NOT contagious and is generally easy to treat. Just some TLC and baths and he'll be all good :) We gave him his first bath here yesterday and he stood still the whole time and waited to shake off until we were all done! Easy peasy!
I know I say this every time but...I can't believe this guy hasn't found a forever home yet! Check out these awesome pictures of Custer loving life :)

Bridgett found her forever home!!!!
I forgot to make a post about my special Bridgie!
Our sweet girl found her forever home with a wonderful lady named Joy :) We couldn't have asked for a better fit, it was SO worth the wait. Bridgett tends to be a bit barky when new people walk towards her, but when Joy walked up to her (outside and in the dark) she was all tail wags and happiness. She knew right away :) Then Joy came into the house with us and I swear, Bridgett forgot all about me. She sat by her, flopped over by her feet...I was chopped liver....and I loved it! I was so proud of her! When it was time to leave, Bridgett looked back at us as she walked out the door and then happily trotted away with Joy. We watched her walk down the street, happy as can be. I was in tears but oh so happy :)
Not only is Joy a great fit for Bridgett, but she's also an awesome adopter that has given me TONS of updates on Bridgett, it's so wonderful to see her fitting in to her new home :) She has been renamed Bennie and is LOVING her new fenced in yard and big comfy dog bed. She even met a 3 year old on her way home, when they stopped at a friends house, and guess what? She loved him!
I'm so happy for my Bridgie Boo....have a great life girl! :)
